Classification of Diabetes Types and Diagnosis
Module Description
This module aims to provide comprehensive knowledge and skills in the classification and diagnosis of various types of diabetes. Participants will explore the distinct clinical characteristics, diagnostic criteria, and pathophysiology of diabetes types, including Type 1, Type 2, Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA), Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY), and gestational diabetes. 
Learning Objectives

At the end of this module, participants will be able to:  

  • Recognize the clinical characteristics and diagnostic criteria for various types of diabetes, including type 1, type 2, latent autoimmune diabetes in adults, maturity-onset diabetes of the young, and gestational diabetes. 
  • Differentiate between the pathophysiology of different types of diabetes. 
  • Evaluate case studies to proficiently diagnose and classify diabetes type.

Nykkia Sellers, MSN, FNP, BC-ADM, CDCES

Nykkia Sellers is the director and owner of Diabetes Care & Wellness, a private adult endocrine practice. She is also a certified diabetes care and education specialist with a board certification in Advanced Diabetes Management. She has an extensive clinical background in diabetes management and education. She is a member of several professional organizations and societies. Currently, Sellers serves on the Advisory Group for Women’s Interprofessional Network of the American Diabetes Association.
