OVERVIEW

Navigating Religious Fasting in Diabetes Management: A Diabetes Is Primary® (DIP) Module

Diabetes Is Primary® is designed to give primary care professionals (PCPs) the essential knowledge and strategies to improve diabetes care and patient outcomes. Based on the ADA's Standards of Care in Diabetes® (SOC), this course focuses on the unique challenges of managing diabetes during periods of religious fasting.

In this module, participants will review different types of fasting and the impact of fasting on glycemic management. This knowledge will help health care professionals recognize the risks associated with fasting for people with diabetes, quantify those risks, and inform patients on ways to minimize the impacts of fasting. Case studies will be used to illustrate key points on risk factors, risk assessment scoring, and safe practices, providing relevant practice helping patients with diabetes navigate the medical and social aspects of religious fasting.
