Changing the Conversation on Obesity

     

OVERVIEW

Changing the Conversation on Obesity provides evidence-based, person-centered practices for managing obesity, leading to improved outcomes and quality of life.

 

Content will address:

  • Reducing biases and the stigma of obesity
  • Screening, assessing and diagnosing obesity
  • Evidence-based lifestyle, pharmacologic, and surgical treatment options for individuals diagnosed with obesity
  • Counseling techniques when working with individuals diagnosed with obesity

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Identify strategies for reducing weight bias and stigma in health care.
  • Apply supportive communication and counseling techniques when working with individuals diagnosed with obesity.
  • Outline assessment and monitoring approaches for obesity.
  • Evaluate evidence-based lifestyle, pharmacologic, and surgical treatment options for individuals with obesity.
  • Recall strategies for addressing side effects and lifestyle impacts of pharmacologic and surgical interventions.
  • Identify the physiologic and metabolic changes that impact weight-management across the lifespan.
  • Recognize gaps in obesity care and identify strategies for partnering with patients to improve access.
