At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to: 

  • State a clear understanding of the common forms of diabetes seen in the pediatric population, and the key physiological mechanisms underlying the condition.​ 
  • State appropriate insulin storage and signs of compromised or defective insulin.​ 
  • Understand the different types of diabetes medications and insulin therapies, their mechanisms of action, and how to administer them safely. 
  • Understand insulin dosing​ components and appropriate insulin administration techniques using insulin syringes and insulin pens. 
  • List Type 2 Diabetes medications used in the school setting and define side effects that may impact student learning.
