Lifestyle management is the cornerstone in providing care for people with diabetes. During this module, we will review the most important and effective physical activity and nutrition recommendations. We will also discuss how to effectively evaluate barriers and considerations for these recommendations. We will review how to support meaningful changes in your patient’s habits; including referrals for medical nutrition therapy and diabetes self-management education and support specialists.

John Cain is a physician assistant at the Wake Forest Baptist Health Diabetes and
Endocrinology Center in Winston-Salem and Greensboro and has been providing highly specialized diabetes and endocrine care for nearly a decade. Before transitioning to endocrinology, he worked in family medicine at a federally qualified community health center in Kentucky's Appalachian foothills. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Centre College, John received graduate education in public health and physician assistant studies at the University of Kentucky. John is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, current Vice President of the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants, and the current President of the Piedmont Association of Physician Assistants.
