Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is common in people with diabetes, but there are ways to reduce that risk and slow the progression.  During this module, you will learn how to effectively screen and diagnose chronic kidney disease.  We will review lifestyle recommendations and medications (including those with new indications) that have been proven to successfully address chronic kidney disease as well as when to refer to a nephrologist.

Learning objectives:

  • Choose appropriate anti-hyperglycemic medications in the setting of chronic kidney disease in diabetes
  • Apply standards of care in screening for chronic kidney disease in diabetes
  • Identify persons with diabetes and chronic kidney disease who need referral to a nephrologist
