Secondary Prevention

Learning Objectives:

•    Recognize the relationship between type 2 diabetes and usual risk factors for adverse cardiovascular outcomes among patients with a history of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) or heart failure. 
•    Assess guideline-directed therapies for the management of established risk factors among patients with a history of ASCVD or heart failure.
•    Consider strategies for incorporating cardioprotective or cardiorenal protective therapies into the management plan for improved glycemic control. 
•    Identify potential socioeconomic and cultural barriers to optimizing secondary prevention therapies for patients with a history of ASCVD or heart failure.
