• Establish individual glycemic targets using a patient-centered approach as described in the American Diabetes Association’s Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes.
• Evaluate the treatment options available when intensifying therapy.
• Understand the concept of overbasalization and how to avoid it.
• Calculate baseline insulin doses and properly titrate doses based on patients’ blood glucose monitoring values
• Advise patients on their options with regard to insulin therapy regimen (premixed, MDI, insulin pump, and hybrid closed-loop systems).
