The number of type 2 diabetes treatment options have increased, and many drug class indications recently have changed. During this module, we will explore the effectiveness of different classes of antihyperglycemic agents, as well as how the agents are different. We also will review why it is important to focus on more than glucose control when selecting antihyperglycemic agents.

Josh Neumiller is on faculty at Washington State University and is a contributing author for the ADA books Medications for the Treatment of Diabetes and Practical Insulin. Josh is past Editor for the ADA journal Diabetes Spectrum and served as Chairman of the ADA’s Professional Practice Committee from 2018-2019 whose primary responsibility is revising the ADA Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes each year. Josh was named the 2021 ADCES Diabetes Educator of the Year for his work in diabetes care and education.
