The Time is NOW: Incorporating T1D Screening and Treatment Options into DSMES

OVERVIEW

This live webinar, "The Time is NOW: Incorporating T1D Screening and Treatment Options into DSMES," will give Diabetes Care and Education Specialists and healthcare professionals updated insights on Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). It covers T1D's three stages, key symptoms for early detection, best practices in screening high-risk individuals, and monitoring strategies. Attendees will learn about the latest therapies like immune-modulating agents such as Tzield and how they can help delay stage 3 T1D. The session also pinpoints when to discuss screening and treatment options during the DSMES cycle, emphasizing early intervention and personalized care to improve patient outcomes.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Identify and describe the three stages of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), including the progression and distinguishing features of each stage.
  • Recognize key signs and symptoms associated with each stage of T1D to facilitate early detection and timely intervention.
  • Understand the role and timing of screening for T1D, particularly for individuals at highest risk, and know the appropriate monitoring strategies based on screening results.
  • Discuss the latest developments in T1D therapy, including immune-modulating agents like Tzield, and explain how these therapies can delay the onset of stage 3 T1D and preserve beta cell function.
  • List critical points during the Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) cycle when Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (DCES) should discuss screening and therapeutic options with people with diabetes and their families.
  • Emphasize the importance of early detection, intervention, and individualized therapeutic planning in improving outcomes and quality of life for people with T1D.
