This webinar examines the role of implicit bias in the management of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and its impact on marginalized communities. Participants will uncover strategies to foster trust and improve communication in clinical interactions while exploring culturally sensitive approaches to GDM management. The session highlights evidence-based interventions, including tailored nutrition counseling, glucose monitoring, and pharmacotherapy that address the unique needs of underserved populations. Attendees will also gain insight into the role of allied health professionals in delivering team-based care that mitigates social and economic barriers. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Identify and challenge biases in health care delivery that impact the management of GDM in high-risk populations, with a focus on improving communication and trust-building.

  • Recognize individualized and evidence-based strategies for GDM management during pregnancy, including nutrition counseling, glucose monitoring, and pharmacotherapy tailored to the unique needs of high-risk communities.

  • Recall the role of allied health professionals in providing accessible, team-based care that addresses the specific social and economic barriers faced by women in high-risk populations during pregnancy.
