Addressing GDM Disparities: Preconception Care and Early Detection in High-Risk Communities | Recording
Recorded Webinar

This webinar delves into the complex factors driving gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) disparities in marginalized communities. Participants will explore key risk factors, including social determinants of health, genetic predispositions, and modifiable lifestyle elements, while gaining insight into culturally relevant interventions.
Overview

This webinar delves into the complex factors driving gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) disparities in high-risk communities. Participants will explore key risk factors, including genetic predispositions and modifiable lifestyle elements, while gaining insight into individually tailored interventions. The session highlights strategies to adapt evidence-based guidelines for populations at higher risk for GDM, and the importance of early and frequent GDM screening during preconception and early pregnancy stages. Attendees will also learn actionable approaches to mitigate disparities through community-based support, individualized, respectful care, and enhanced resource access. Join us to elevate your practice and promote acces to care in maternal health.

Funding for this project is provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota.

Learning Objectives
  • Identify the risk factors for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in high-risk communities, including modifiable lifestyle factors and genetic predispositions, with an emphasis on individually tailored interventions.
  • Recall the importance of individualized screening for GDM during the early pregnancy stages in at-risk populations and how evidence-based guidelines can be adapted to improve access to care.
  • Recognize the roadblocks that exacerbate GDM disparities among high-risk communities and actionable strategies to mitigate these disparities through community-based support, individualized care, and improved access to resources.
