Incretins and Weight Management for Type 2 Diabetes

OVERVIEW

Currently, there are effective medical interventions and therapies for weight management, but they remain underutilized due to low clinician knowledge, comfort, and experience utilizing them. This program is designed to increase your knowledge of current management and prevention strategies for diabetes and weight management, including lifestyle and medical therapies, effective counseling techniques, and the role of incretin therapy.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Identify latest management and prevention strategies for diabetes and weight management, including lifestyle and medical therapies and the role of incretin therapy.
  • Explore counseling techniques when working with individuals diagnosed with diabetes and overweight or diagnosed with obesity.
  • Understand the stigma of diabetes and overweight/obesity in diverse populations to reduce biases in health care.

MODULES

MODULE 1

Stigma of Diabetes and Weight Management

 

This module will focus on challenges for people facing diabetes and weight stigma, and strategies for identifying and addressing these challenges.

MODULE 2

Diabetes and Weight Management:
Part 1

This module will summarize goals of weight loss for people with type 2 diabetes from clinical practice guidelines, including the Standards of Care in Diabetes.

MODULE 3

Behavioral Change and Weight Management

 

This module describes challenges faced by people living with obesity and outlines ways in which clinicians can facilitate behavioral change using techniques to modify behavior.

MODULE 4

Diabetes and Weight Management:

Part 2

This module will focus on incretin therapy for patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity and discuss ways to manage common side effects.
