Advanced Course in Diabetes Complications

OVERVIEW

This course is a result of the collaboration Between ADA and Mankind Pharma to benefit millions of people living with diabetes in India. This collaboration is aimed at a mission to prevent diabetes and improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes in India through health care professional education. Diabetes is a major cause of heart attacks, stroke, kidney failure and lower limb amputation around the world. Primary health care professionals stand on the frontline of care delivery for the 422+ million individuals living with diabetes around the world with over 77 million people with diabetes living in India.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Recognize risk factors, pathophysiology, and advances in early detection and treatment of diabetes-related complications, such as vision loss and neuropathy.
  • Examine the role of screening for diabetes-related complications in asymptomatic people with diabetes and people with kidney or cardiovascular disease.
  • Identify the pathophysiology and risk factors of chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease in diabetes.  
  • Recall screening and monitoring best practices for chronic kidney and cardiovascular disease in diabetes.  
  • Recall the role of new agents, SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 RA, in mitigating cardiorenal risk.

MODULES

MODULE 1

Diabetes Complications

 

This module describes how to recognize risk factors, pathophysiology, and advances in early detection and treatment of diabetes-related complications, such as vision loss and neuropathy. Examine the role of screening for diabetes-related complications in asymptomatic people with diabetes. Learn the role of new agents in mitigating the risk of complications and the importance of regular exams and screening for complications.

MODULE 2

Screening, Prevention and Management of Chronic Kidney Disease

Learn how to identify the pathophysiology and risk factors of chronic kidney disease in diabetes.  Learn screening and monitoring best practices for chronic kidney disease in diabetes. Explore lifestyle modifications and pharmacological treatment of chronic kidney disease in diabetes and compare new therapies with cardiovascular and kidney effects. 

 

MODULE 3

Screening, Prevention and Management of Cardiovascular Disease

In this module, you will learn about the burden of cardiovascular disease in diabetes, how to recognize risk factors and the pathophysiology of cardiovascular complications.  You will also examine the role of screening for coronary artery disease in asymptomatic patients with diabetes and the role of new agents, SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 RA, in mitigating cardiorenal risk.
