Building on the insights from the Treating People Living with Obesity in Clinical Care webinar, this session will take a deeper dive into the referral pathways for mental health specialists and exercise physiologists while incorporating the patient perspective for people living with obesity. Presenters will discuss motivational interviewing and when to refer to a mental health specialist and exercise physiologist. Recommendations for evidence-based obesity management strategies, lifestyle modifications for eating behaviors, physical activity, and weight-related bias and stigma will also be discussed.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the webinar, participants will:
  • Examine clinical impacts of motivational interviewing, behavioral changes, and the stigma of biases associated with weight and mental health needs.
  • Recall when to refer patients to mental health support and exercise physiologist
  • Recognize strategies for building patients’ self-efficacy and enhancing motivation to engage in physical activity.
  • Recognize the barriers and challenges patients’ experience as they navigate through care.
