Learning Objectives:

  • Review appropriate carbohydrate counting with and without nutrition labels, and discuss appropriate portion estimation tools when measuring utensils are unavailable. 

  • Discuss effective communication techniques with students and families regarding nutritional management during the school day.  

  • Review different nutritional options for bringing a blood sugar to target versus hypoglycemia treatment. 

  • List common nutritional case scenarios in the school day and state appropriate dosing or medical interventions for each. 


    This program is intended for primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, and other members of the primary care team who manage patients with diabetes in a school setting.
