Maximizing CGM to Facilitate Lifestyle Changes
Module Description
In this module, participants will learn the significant benefits of continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and their pivotal role in enhancing time in range for people with diabetes. By understanding the intricacies of CGMs, participants will gain valuable insights into real-time monitoring, enabling proactive management of blood glucose levels. Additionally, learners will explore evidence-based nutrition guidelines tailored specifically for individuals with diabetes, providing a foundation for making informed dietary choices.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this module, participants will be able to:
  1. Identify evidence-based nutrition guidelines for people with diabetes.
  2. Recognize how continuous glucose monitors can help improve time in range.

Module Faculty

Libby (Elizabeth) Johnson, RDN, LDN, CDCES

Libby Johnson is a certified diabetes care and education specialist and registered dietitian with the diabetes education program at HealthPartners/Park Nicollet and is a faculty member of International Diabetes Center, HealthPartners Institute. . She provides outpatient diabetes self-management education and medical nutrition therapy for adults with gestational, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. She has participated in multiple quality improvement projects and diabetes technology initiatives, focusing on ways to improve patient engagement and diabetes measures.

 

Libby graduated from Miami University of Ohio with her bachelor’s degree in dietetics and health promotion in 2013. She completed her dietetic internship at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria Illinois in 2014.

 

Holly Willis, PhD, RDN, LD

Holly Willis has been a registered dietitian nutritionist for 20 years. She completed her dietetic internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, earned an MS degree in Nutrition Communication from Tufts University, and holds a PhD in Nutrition from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Willis has worked in clinical, industry, and academic settings, and she is currently a Research Investigator at the International Diabetes Center in Minneapolis, MN. She is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, and her current research focuses on the use of continuous glucose monitoring to guide nutrition interventions in people with type 2 diabetes.

 

Tara Ettestad, RDN, LD, CDCES    

Tara Ettestad has been a registered dietitian for over 10 years and is a Program Manager at the International Diabetes Center (IDC) with the Care Transformation and Training team with a focus on integrating diabetes technology to improve glucose management. Tara develops education resources, training programs, and quality improvement initiations within the organization.  As part of this team, Tara also provides overall diabetes technology education for primary care providers as well as health and industry professionals using adult learning techniques that include case studies, simulation, and hands on learning experiences. Additionally, she is involved in research using continuous glucose monitoring to guide lifestyle changes.
