Managing Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease

Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity, participants will be able to: 

  • Screen and diagnose CKD using evidence-based recommendations  
  • Identify timely and appropriate behavioral, lifestyle, and medication therapies for people living with diabetes and CKD  
  • Treat CKD and cardiovascular disease as a part of a holistic approach to diabetes care 
  • Address disparities in healthcare to improve screening and treatment of CKD in people living with diabetes

Rozalina G. McCoy, MD, MS 

Dr. McCoy is the associate professor of medicine, director of precision medicine and population health, and vice chief of clinical research in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Nutrition at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.  

Lance Sloan, MD, MSE, FACE, FACP, FASN, FEAA, FASPC 

Dr. Sloan is the president of the Texas Institute for Kidney and Endocrine Disorders and clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX, and Sam Houston State University, TX. 

Vanessa Connolly, RDN, CSR, LD 

Vanessa is a board-certified specialist in renal nutrition and founder of Vanessa Connolly Nutrition, LLC (Grain and Green Kidneys).
