Interaction of GLP-1 agonists with Exercise and Nutrition on Muscle Health and Glucose Regulation
This ADA member-exclusive webinar will discuss the current CGM prescription and data storage in real-world clinical settings. We will provide the concrete examples, elaborate the current implementation barriers, and discuss potential solutions of the CGM use in the clinical practices.
Overview

GLP-1 agonists are increasingly used to promote weight loss and improve blood glucose control. Some health professionals are concerned about muscle mass loss. This webinar will discuss the potential interaction of these pharmaceutical agents with exercise and nutrition in an effort to promote evidence-based decisions about patient care.

Date & Time: March 19, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, EST
Learning Objectives
  • Role of nutrition on muscle mass and general health during GLP-1 agonist use.
  • Impact of resistance exercise on muscle mass during GLP-1 agonist use.
  • Interaction of aerobic exercise and GLP-1 agonists on glucose regulation independent of muscle mass.

Danny Green, PhD, University of Western Austrailia

Danny is a Winthrop Professor based in the School of Human Sciences (Sport and Exercise Science). A recent NHMRC Principal Research Fellow, he is a cardiovascular exercise physiologist specializing in the prevention of chronic disease. His research encompasses the lifespan; from exercise training in the prevention of the development of atherosclerosis in obese children and adolescents, to research on the best combination of exercise and medications in the management of patients with coronary disease, stroke, hypercholesterolaemia, diabetes and heart failure patients awaiting transplantation.

Flemming Dela, MD, University of Copenhagen

Flemming Dela is a professor at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, with extensive expertise in human physiology, metabolism, and endocrinology. His research focuses on insulin action, glucose metabolism, and the physiological effects of exercise, particularly in individuals with type 2 diabetes. In this webinar, Professor Dela will discuss "Pancreatic Beta-Cell Function" in the context of GLP-1 agonists and lifestyle modifications. His talk is based on findings from his recent study, "Effects of aerobic training and semaglutide treatment on pancreatic beta-cell secretory function in patients with type 2 diabetes" (PubMed: 37265222), which explores the combined impact of exercise and semaglutide on beta-cell function in type 2 diabetes management.
