Behavioral Change and Weight Management
Module Description
This module describes challenges faced by people living with obesity and outlines ways in which clinicians can facilitate behavioral change using techniques to modify behavior.
Learning Objectives
  1. Define health behavior change and how it applies to diabetes and weight management.
  2. Identify steps to behavioral change that facilitate weight management.
  3. Recognize how helping patients deactivate stress through motivational interviewing aids in weight management.
  4. Identify potential barriers that may hinder weight management.
Module Faculty





Samar Hafida, MD

Samar Hafida, MBBCh, currently serves as an Endocrinologist and Weight Management Specialist at Boston Medical Center and Assistant Professor at Boston University School of Medicine. She specializes in the management of people with obesity and complex metabolic disorders including diabetes. Utilizing diabetes technology to advance care for people with diabetes is among her many interests. She has a special interest in treating young adults who live with obesity and type 2 diabetes and works to help bridge the gap transitioning them from pediatric to adult care. Dr. Hafida is passionate about advocating for people with diabetes and obesity, believes in eliminating obesity-related stigma, and providing quality equitable care for all regardless of who they are.
