David M. Shelburne, MD is a board-certified Family Medicine physician and physician leader with Advocate Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He has over a decade of experience in primary care, with a focus on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while advancing innovation in chronic disease management, particularly in diabetes. 
 
Dr. Shelburne currently serves as Physician Lead for the Primary Care Service Line, where he leads strategic initiatives to improve access, optimize clinic utilization, and enhance provider performance across a large, integrated health system. He previously served as Medical Director from 2019 to 2024, where he was instrumental in driving operational improvements, supporting clinical teams, and aligning practice performance with system-level goals. His leadership is defined by an ability to translate organizational priorities into meaningful improvements at the point of care. 
Clinically, Dr. Shelburne has a strong interest in diabetes management and the integration of emerging technologies into primary care. He has been actively involved with the American Diabetes Association (ADA), contributing to provider education and promoting the adoption of tools such as continuous glucose monitoring to improve outcomes. 
Dr. Shelburne earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Davidson College and his Doctor of Medicine from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident.
