Screening and Lifestyle Management of Liver Health: Incorporating Liver Health into Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) | Recording

Recorded Webinar

This webinar, designed for health care professionals at ERP sites, provides an overview of MASLD, including its fundamental aspects, associated risk factors, and therapeutic approaches encompassing nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and pharmacologic interventions. Additionally, it addresses management strategies for advanced conditions, such as Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), and offers guidance on integrating liver health considerations into DSMES educational practices.

Overview

Since 1986, the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) Education Recognition Program (ERP) has accredited over 7,000 DSMES programs, helping them adopt National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support. Through these efforts, ERPs have reached more than 10 million people with diabetes nationwide since 2012.

Individuals with diabetes, particularly those with obesity, are at an elevated risk for complications such as Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD).

Learning Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the relationship between MASLD/MASH and diabetes/cardiometabolic disease.
  2. Identify key risk factors for MASLD/MASH.
  3. Apply current evidence‑based strategies for disease prevention and management.
  4. Assess how nutritional factors influence MASLD/MASH progression and treatment.
  5. Implement practical lifestyle interventions to improve liver health and integrate them into DSMES.
